Yellow September: DPC promotes mental health awareness campaign
Actions included specialized information and activities to engage the team
Mental health, respect, self-knowledge, empathy, balance and acceptance. The Yellow September ®️ campaign at DPC highlighted, throughout the month, the importance of self-care and attention to others.
As an initiative of the internal program DPC Saúde, a special live discussed a difficult but necessary topic: suicide prevention. Communication pieces and other actions also addressed the subject. On the 16th, in Rio and São Paulo, the teams wore laces and yellow clothes to symbolize their engagement with the cause.
"Acting saves lives"
On the 15th, DPC promoted an online lecture with psychiatrist Maria Benedita Reis, who proposed an open conversation about suicide prevention, without prejudice, without myths.
“Acting saves lives” is the motto of this year's awareness campaign by the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (Associação Brasileira de Psiquiatria- ABP), in partnership with the Federal Council of Medicine (Conselho Federal de Medicina - CFM). It was also the theme of this event organized by DPC to invite its employees and the general public to reflect upon.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that one person dies from suicide in the world every 40 seconds. In Brazil, there are about 13 thousand suicides every year. These numbers call attention to the need to address mental health issues.
The specialist discussed the epidemiological scenario, the main risk factors and the warning signs for possible suicide attempts. Depression is the main disease that leads to it, but its is still greatly ignored by society. “Depression is a disease that needs to be treated with medication and psychotherapy,” said the professional.
The doctor also highlighted the importance of prevention and how each one can make a difference in the lives of those who are going through a difficult time and need help, using an appropriate approach.
According to Maria Benedita, when a person close to you is giving indications that they might commit the act, it is recommended that you show they can trust you, by listening to them and offering support to seek professional psychological help, without any type of judgment.
Everyone can act to save lives!
