Digital Certificate: renewal and issuance in 5 steps
You can issue or renew your digital certificate in a few steps, in a quick and simple way
A digital certificate attests the electronic identity of a person or company, something that is crucial during these times where so much information is exchanged electronically. Obtaining a digital certificate is very simple and can be done in a few steps.
Before starting this process, however, check out a few important points and precautions to be taken.
Security
You should make sure that the registration authority (RA) you are looking for is accredited by the Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure ICP-Brasil, and thus will be able to issue and renew digital certificates. Domingues e Pinho Contadores is one such RA (learn more about that here).
Usage
Once you have chosen your RA, the only thing left is to know which digital certificate is the most suitable for your situation. To pick the right one, you need to figure out whether you will use your certificate as a citizen, or as a legal representative of a company, or for issuing invoices, exclusively. Thus, you must choose from the following options:
e-CPF |
Used to attest the identity of an individual for activities that require a CPF – Individual Taxpayer Number. |
e-CNPJ |
Used by a company's legal representatives for several corporate purposes. |
NF-e |
Used exclusively for issuing Electronic Invoices (NFe). |
Media type and validity
Once you have that figured out, it is necessary to understand which type is best suited for the intended use:
A1 |
A digital file is installed on a computer |
A3 |
USB Token or smart card (portable) |
A certificate can be valid for 1, 2 or 3 years. When it comes to making a decision, take into account not only the cost of each option, but also the convenience of the longer use time.
