Economic-Financial Statement (DEF): first submission of the year must be done until 03/31

Companies that receive direct foreign investments that have assets or equity equal to or greater than BRL 250 million have to submit the quarterly Economic-Financial Statement (Declaração Econômico-Financeira, or DEF) to Bacen.

DEF is made up of information related to the capital share, equity, assets and liabilities, and “flow accounts” that are assessed throughout the trimester.

Quarterly DEF Submission Calendar

DEF must be done in reference to the following base dates: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. The deadline for filling the statement out is up to 90 days after every base date.

Annual Accounting

For their part, companies with equity and assets lower than BRL 250 million must, also up to March 31, include a new updated member list for the base date of December 31, 2021.

Penalties

The lack of submission of DEFs, the submission of false, incomplete, or incorrect information or a tardy submission subjects the responsible to fines that might total up to BRL 250 thousand.
