FGTS Digital set to launch in March
Employers will be required to integrate new platform into their daily operations
FGTS Digital, the new platform for managing the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) payments, is officially launching on March 1st. From this date onwards, employers will be required to use the system for all FGTS-related procedures.
Between August 2023 and January of this year, the platform was available in its limited testing environment, allowing users to explore and test its features. Those who got acquainted with the system during this trial period are expected to experience a smoother transition.
Read on to learn more about the FGTS Digital and the changes to come:
What is FGTS Digital?
FGTS Digital represents the latest approach to the integrated management of the FGTS (Severance Indemnity Fund) collection process, which is set to replace the existing SEFIP/GRRF/Conectividade Social systems. The government's objective with this update is to streamline the collection process, enhance the accessibility and quality of information for both workers and employers, and improve the accuracy and efficiency of calculating, reporting, and collecting FGTS payments.
Who is required to comply with the new rules?
All employers legally responsible for paying FGTS contributions must comply with the new requirements.
What is the purpose of FGTS Digital?
With the new platform, employers will be able to generate payment slips with the added convenience of consolidating multiple dues into a single document. The FGTS amounts payable will be determined automatically based on data submitted through eSocial, thanks to the integration between both systems.
Key features of the system include detailed reports on payments made, provision of both consolidated and individualized statements for each employee, and a query function to identify and address any pending issues.
What will change with the new system?
The introduction of FGTS Digital, coupled with its integration with eSocial, will bring about significant improvements and require employers to adapt their routines. Key changes include:
SEFIP/’Conectividade Social’ system replacement: FGTS Digital will supersede the Corporate System for FGTS Collection and Provision of Social Security Information (SEFIP) in the generation of monthly or severance FGTS contribution forms.
Once it is implemented, the new platform will also replace the ‘Conectividade Social’ system for the collection of amounts due.
New payment deadline: The deadline for paying FGTS contributions will be extended from the 7th to the 20th of the month following the reporting period.
However, it should be noted that:
- This new deadline is applicable only to taxable events taking place after the FGTS Digital payment function is launched.
- The 10-day deadline for FGTS payments related to severance and compensatory payments (FGTS fines) remains unchanged.
PIX Payment Method: All FGTS payments must be made exclusively through the Brazilian Instant Payment Platform (PIX). Payment slips will include a QR Code, allowing for direct payment via the employer's bank's app or website.
Important considerations
Employers should be mindful when setting up powers of attorney for agents to manage FGTS Digital on their behalf. If powers of attorney were registered during the testing period, there is no need for a repeat registration.
Furthermore, in scenarios where a digital certificate is required for access, they should ensure that the certificate is valid for use. Should it be expired, a renewal is necessary.
