<h1>Observatório Social do Rio de Janeiro, an entity supported by Domingues e Pinho Contadores, completes one year</h1>

<p>On July 26, Observatório Social do Rio de Janeiro (OSB-Rio) organized an event to celebrate the victories and achievements of its first year acting in favor of a society with greater control over the use of public resources and to improve local management.</p>

<p>The ceremony brought together representatives of the State Auditors’ Court (TCE-RJ), Municipal Auditors’ Court (TCM-RJ), State Public Prosecutor (MP-RJ), State General Auditors’ Office (CGE-RJ) and Regional Accounting Council of Rio de Janeiro (CRC-RJ), and other entity’s partners and supporters.</p>

Domingues e Pinho Contadores, one of the company’s initiative supporting, was represented at the event by Carlos Ripper, the administrative and financial director, and Luciana Arakaki, marketing advisor.</p>

<p>Tatiana Bastos, the OSB-Rio’s CEO, in her opening speech, emphasized that the institution represents an opportunity to the citizen to play a leading role and participate effectively in the improvement of society, leaving aside the belief that the responsible is always the other person or the politician.
</p>

<p>The CEO also led the exhibition of goals and achievements throughout the first year, in which she exposed the mission, vision, and values of the organization. “For OSB-Rio, ‘transparency’ is a word that is part of our mission as an institution, but also it is what we value as one of the tools to improve the public management in the social control practice”, said Tatiana Bastos.</p>

<p>During the ceremony, the OSB-Rio signed the agreement with CGE-RJ and announced agreements with TCE-RJ and the CAU/RJ. OSB-Rio is processing agreements with MPRJ and Crea-RJ. The institutions will act jointly focusing on increasing the transparency in the public power actions.</p>

<h3>Accomplishments and recognition</h3>

<p>Among the achievements, the CEO highlighted the cooperation agreements signed with various entities, the growing role as collaborating members of external and internal control working groups and the participation in the State Fiscal Education Group alongside other institutions.</p>

<p>In just one year of activities, OSB-Rio developed the Rio de Janeiro Municipality Transparency Indicator and was invited to contribute in the reengineering of the Executive and the TCM-RJ websites.
</p>

<p>Another work completed with expressive results and widely disclosed in the press was the project that evaluated the municipal urban transportation system using the Cliente Oculto (Hidden Client, in English) auditing technique, in partnership with the General Municipality Auditors’ Office and the society.
</p>

<p>OSB-Rio is among the 22 renowned initiatives in Brazil by the National Council of the Public Prosecution (CNMP) as an instrument to promote social integrity and citizenship. The NGO is also competing for the Innovare Prize, which in 2018 highlights anti-corruption practices. In addition, the Cliente Oculto project and the Executive’s active transparency evaluation work are competing for the TCE-RJ award.</p>

<h3>Volunteering</h3>

<p>With the support of companies and individuals who financially contribute for maintaining the activities, the fundamental participation of volunteers who work to achieve the entity’s objectives is added.</p>

<p>One of the volunteers is Jefferson Gonçalves, DPC’s financial management manager. He says that, at knowing the Observatório Social work, he saw a chance to act for a cause in which he believes in. “I saw it as an opportunity to get out of the cycle of just complaining about the situation, exercising citizenship, and putting aside the thought that improvement depends on the other person or the politician we choose.”</p>

<p>He explains that volunteering at OSB-Rio requires commitment, but many activities can be remotely done, at alternative hours, allowing the balancing the demands with professional routine and personal life.</p>

<p>More specifically, Jefferson has been working in a working group aimed to check if public entities are complying with the Access to Information Law. By identifying non-sufficient data and failures in the quality of information provided to citizens, the group presents the request to complement through the official channels. The action may evolve into a resource or official issued by OSB-Rio, in case of non-attendance.</p>

<p>According to Jefferson, dedication to the project has brought him benefits. “I can feel active and do something to effectively contribute to more transparency in the public management”, he said.</p>
