Solidarity and sustainability: DPC supports the "Rodando com Tampinhas" project
It is an action linking bottle’s plastic caps, environmental awareness and solidarity. This is "Rodando com Tampinhas" (Rolling with bottle caps, in a free translation), a project that the teams of Domingues e Pinho Contadores hugged with great enthusiasm. The campaign was released at the company on World Recycling Day, on May 17, and has been active since then.
The project was born in the São José da Lagoa Parish, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, from the observation of its creators, who decided to unite to face two problems: firstly, the growing waiting list of patients of the Brazilian Benefit Rehabilitation Association (Associação Brasileira Beneficente de Reabilitação - “ABBR”) by wheelchair, and, the huge amount of waste improperly disposed in the environment.
Thus, they came up with the idea of turning bottle’s plastic caps into wheelchair buying aids. With an analogy to "moedinhas" (little coins), the initiative soon gained social networks and a broad supporters network among businesses, schools, malls and other commercial establishments.
Now, bottle caps collected everywhere are delivered to the parish and sold to recycling cooperatives. In 27 weeks of campaign, 8047 kg of caps, collected in several points of collection in the city, have turned into 20 wheelchairs.
It is a doubly noble campaign: promoting more accessibility, quality of life and citizenship for those who need it and withdraw from the environment a material that can spend up to 200 years to decompose.
At DPC, teams in Rio and São Paulo are actively participating in the action. The collection has no date to finish, but so far, more than 7000 thousand units have been gathered.
