State of Rio de Janeiro requires the use of respiratory protection masks

The Law 8.859/20 was published on Jun-04-2020, establishing that in the State of Rio de Janeiro, while the State of Public Calamity is in force due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the use of a respiratory protection mask, either disposable or reusable, in any public environment, as well as in private environments with collective access is mandatory.

This obligation extends to all employees or workers of companies and commercial establishments that are in operation. Hence, the law establishes that companies in operating must also provide, free of charge, to employees and collaborators, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks and disposable gloves and 70% alcohol gel.

People without masks may not enter or remain in commercial establishments with collective access, which shall take the necessary measures to ensure compliance. Those companies that do not comply with the obligation will be subject to fines, as provided in the rule, which came into force at its publication date.
